Kickaroo kids bike kickstand reviews

The Kickaroo kids bike kickstand holds an average of 4.9 out of 5 across 416 verified buyer ratings. Buyers consistently praise how solidly the bike stands once the kickstand is bolted on, and the most common complaint is a sizing mistake: the length has to match the wheel.

The adult range, rated separately

The adjustable adult kickstand is a different part from a different range, so its ratings are counted on their own. It holds an average of 4.9 out of 5 across 1,099 verified buyer ratings, out of 1,154 submitted in total. Adding both ranges together gives the 1,515 figure shown on the home page.

Buyers of the adult stand ride heavier machines than the kids range ever sees, and that shows in what they write about. Electric bikes, fat tires and folding frames come up repeatedly, and so does the adjustable leg, which is the feature the kids range does not have.

"Perfect size for my 20x4.0 fat tire electric dirt bike. Came to the state super fast. It's identical to the one they sell at my local e-bike store for $39.95 + tax."

"I found it very sturdy when mounted on my MTB bike, it works great, I recommend it."

— Bradley F., verified buyer · adult range, 24-29 in

The adult range has the same sizing friction as the kids range, and buyers say so. One wrote that he ordered the wrong size and reordered the correct one once he had checked. The two things to get right before you order are the wheel range and the bolt pattern on your frame, both of which are explained on the adult kickstand page.

What buyers agree on

Three themes come back across the whole set of ratings. The kickstand keeps the bike upright once bolted on, the steel body feels heavier than buyers expect for the price, and the length has to be matched to the wheel size or the bike leans too far or not far enough.

The single most repeated sentence in the ratings is some version of "the bike stands perfectly". A buyer who ordered the 20-inch length wrote that the kickstand attaches without issues and the bike does not fall. A buyer who ordered the 16-inch length described the materials as good quality and called it great value for money. Those two sentences summarize the majority of what buyers say once the kickstand is on the bike and adjusted.

The second theme is weight and thickness. One buyer described the support material as very thick, exactly as described in the specification. Another checked the part against the published dimensions and confirmed that they match. The body is painted steel with a rubber foot, and it weighs between 4.9 oz (139 g) and 5.6 oz (159 g) depending on which of the five lengths you order. Nobody who bought it describes it as flimsy.

The third theme is the one that costs people a return, and it is the reason the size guide exists. Several buyers ordered a length that did not suit their bike. One found the 12-inch length too long and shortened the tube with a saw. Another ordered 18-inch for a 20-inch bike deliberately, after reading that the 20-inch length ran long, and reported that it worked. Measuring your child's wheel before ordering removes almost all of this risk.

What buyers say about installation

Installation takes one bolt through the mounting plate and one wrench. The mounting hole measures 0.41 in (10.5 mm), the standard size on kids' bikes, and the bolt is almost always already there — in the chainstay bracket, usually holding a plastic blanking cover. You unscrew that cover and reuse its bolt.

Two fittings cover nearly every bike. On the outer face of the frame, which is the usual one, the plate sits flat against the bracket. If a welded bump is in the way, the plate mounts just as well on the inner face — both hold the same. On a bike coming off training wheels, the kickstand takes their place directly. A drop of threadlocker on the bolt keeps it set through a season of daily use. Step-by-step photos are on the installation guide.

How to use these reviews before you order

Read the cards that match your child's wheel size first. A comment from a buyer who ordered the 12-inch length tells you very little about the 20-inch length, because the two parts differ by 3.7 in (9.5 cm) of leg. Measure the wheel your child rides today, then pick the matching length: 7.3 in for a 12-inch wheel, 8.1 in for a 14-inch wheel, 8.9 in for a 16-inch wheel, 10.0 in for an 18-inch wheel and 11.0 in for a 20-inch wheel.

If your child's bike sits between two sizes, or if the frame has an unusual rear triangle, the shorter of the two lengths is the safer order. A kickstand that is slightly short leans the bike a little further over and still parks it. A kickstand that is too long lifts the wheel and lets the bike topple, which is exactly what one buyer described after fitting a length that did not suit the frame. Detailed pages exist for the two most common sizes: 16-inch bikes and 20-inch bikes.

If you are still deciding whether your child needs a kickstand at all, the case for and against is worth five minutes. If you are comparing this bolt-on design with a telescoping one, read adjustable versus fixed. For bikes with a suspension frame or a wide rear triangle, start with the mountain bike kickstand guide.

Price, shipping and returns

One kickstand costs $24.95, down from $34.95. The 2-Pack costs $39.95, down from $69.90, which is the price two families usually land on when one child gets a new bike and a sibling inherits the old one. The length you choose does not change the price. Orders leave in 1 to 2 business days and arrive in 6 to 10 business days, shipping is free, and every order is covered for 30 days. Full terms sit on the shipping policy and the refund policy. You can order any of the five lengths from the main kickstand page, and if a question is not answered here, write to us on the contact page.
